Will a Stage 1 remap void my car's warranty?+
This is the most common question we receive — and the honest answer is: it depends on your warranty type and your manufacturer. If your vehicle is still under a manufacturer's warranty, the dealer could technically refuse a warranty claim on components they believe were affected by the remap. However, the majority of drivetrain warranty claims for well-mapped vehicles are approved without issue, because a professionally developed Stage 1 calibration operates within safe limits. If your vehicle is under an extended or third-party warranty, you should check the terms. We're always happy to advise based on your specific situation.
Is a Stage 1 remap safe for my engine?+
Yes — when carried out correctly by a qualified specialist. A professional Stage 1 calibration is developed to increase performance while remaining within the safe operating limits of your engine, fuel system, turbo and gearbox. At Concept-R, we run a full pre-remap diagnostic check on every vehicle. If we find anything that concerns us — excessive wear, fault codes, oil issues — we'll tell you before we start. We don't remap vehicles we're not confident in. Our lifetime warranty and money-back guarantee are the real proof: we wouldn't offer them if we weren't 100% confident in the quality and safety of our work.
How long does a Stage 1 remap take?+
From arrival to departure, most Stage 1 remaps are completed in 45–60 minutes. This includes our pre-remap diagnostic check, ECU read, calibration, write-back, and post-remap verification. You don't need to leave the vehicle all day — most customers wait in our comfortable reception area and are back on the road within the hour.
What power gains will I actually feel?+
On a modern turbodiesel, typical Stage 1 gains are in the region of 20–50 bhp and 40–100 Nm of additional torque — the exact figures depend on your vehicle, its condition, and its ECU type. The most commonly reported 'feeling' from our customers is improved throttle response and mid-range torque — the car or van pulls more willingly, requires fewer gear changes, and overtaking becomes more confident.
Will a Stage 1 remap improve my fuel economy?+
In most cases, yes. By optimising fuel injection timing and improving torque delivery at lower RPM, a Stage 1 remap reduces the amount of throttle input required to maintain speed. Many customers report 10–20% improvements in real-world MPG — particularly on motorway and mixed driving. Van drivers who are regularly loaded see the most dramatic improvements because the engine doesn't have to work as hard under load.
Do I need to tell my insurance company?+
Yes. All ECU remapping should be declared to your insurance provider as a vehicle modification. Most insurers will note the modification without significantly increasing your premium — particularly for Stage 1 work. Failure to declare a remap could invalidate your insurance in the event of a claim.
Can you remap my petrol car, or is it only for diesels?+
We remap both petrol and diesel vehicles. Modern turbocharged petrol engines respond very well to Stage 1 remapping — VW/Audi 2.0 TSI, BMW B48/B58, Ford EcoBoost and similar platforms all deliver excellent results. Naturally aspirated petrol engines can also be remapped, though gains are typically more modest.
What happens if a dealer overwrites my remap during a service?+
This is exactly what our lifetime software warranty covers. If a main dealer or independent garage carries out a software update that overwrites your remap, bring the vehicle back to us and we'll reinstall it at no charge. This warranty lasts for the lifetime of the vehicle while you own it.
