Staveley is one of the most distinctively industrial towns in Derbyshire. The Staveley Works — the former Staveley Coal and Iron Company complex — defined the town for over a century. Its industrial canal, Barrow Hill Roundhouse (the last operational steam roundhouse in the UK) and the chemical works heritage give Staveley a character unlike any of its neighbours. It's a working town in the fullest sense, and its current economic identity is built on the industrial estates and logistics operations that occupy the same geography as the former heavy industry.

The Staveley Works Industrial Estate is one of North Derbyshire's most active commercial zones.
